There are multifarious dog breeds, with over 800 being recognized by diversified kennel clubs worldwide. Dog breeders are increasingly cognizant of the importance of population genetics and of maintaining diverse gene pools
Without selection, inbreeding and closed gene pools can aggrandizement the risk of severe health or behavioral problems.
